Where

Start locations are near Layton, NJ, 1-1/2 hours northwest of NYC.

All rides start and finish at Sandyston-Walpack School, on Route 560, 2 miles west of Route 206.

When

For the 2007 Tour de Sussex, all rides will start at 10pm on Saturday, June 23rd, weather permitting. (See remark below on rain cancelation.)


Rain Date

The rain date will be the following day, Sunday, the 24th.

If the event on the 23rd is called due to bad weather, pre-registrants will be notified by e-mail and a note will be posted on this site's main page by 6pm on Friday, the 22nd, to accomodate overnighters.


Routes

Routes travel through one national and two state parks. Routes are entirely on paved roads, but hybrids and mountain bikes are more than welcome.

Flat rides: 25 and 46 miles

Mountainous rides: 42 and 88 miles

Start/finish: Sandyston-Walpack School, 100 Route 560, Layton, NJ

The mountainous routes include the two highest mountains in New Jersey. Most climbing is in the first 38 miles. Elevation gain for the 42-mile route is 3,250 feet, sometimes pitching up to 15% grade. The 88-mile route has over 5,000 feet of elevation gain.

Each route will have at least one non-commercial food stop. The longer routes include bailout points. Both mountaintop legs of the mountainous routes are optional.


Pre-event Training Ride

A pre-event training ride will be held on Satuday, June 9th, starting at 10 a.m..

Start/finish: Sussex Bike & Sport Shop, 155 Rt. 23, Sussex, NJ
Distance: about 30 miles
Terrain: Hilly, not mountainous

Directions: Rt. 23 can be accessed from I-80. Sussex Bike & Sport is on Rt. 23, midway between the town of Sussex to the north and Hamburg to the south. The store itself is between Sussex Motel (to the north) and Rolling Hills Motel (to the south).

Parking: For the benefit of Sussex Bike & Sport, we will park in the lot next door at Kuiken Lumber, just a few steps away.

Note that the parks, mountaintop and river views, and full support will be saved for the main event on the 23rd.
